Classic sugar cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Instructions

  1. Cream together powdered sugar, butter, egg, and vanilla.
  2. Stir in flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar.
  3. Chill for 3 hours until firm.
  4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  5. Remove dough, flour a board, and roll out dough to 1/8th to 1/4th inch thick.
  6. Punch out cookie shapes.
  7. Place on cookie sheet and bake for 7-8 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool before icing.
