From my personal experience, wasting a day in Las Vegas to run a race is not the best use of your time in Las Vegas. Friday dawned bright and early. I left work around 11 pm on Thursday, so I went home, cleaned, and did laundry until I had to leave for the airport around 3 am. I was at the airport so early that even Starbucks wasn’t open. And I forgot to eat breakfast. Luckily, Starbucks opened at 15 minutes before my flight left, so I grabbed a scone and some juice and made it back as my flight was boarding. After a layover in 5 degree Denver, I got to Vegas at 10 am. I met up with Ashley and her parents, and we headed down to our hotel. Our rooms weren’t ready, so we left our bags and went to the race expo. We picked up our packets, and I bought a long-sleeve running shirt because the forecast for Sunday kept getting colder. We grabbed lunch at the Hard Rock (where I bought another shirt) and went back to the hotel. The race set up several open bars, so we got ready and headed down to the Venetian. We drank a bit too much and wound up at The Griddle Café at SLS for dinner (after midnight).
Mac called me early Saturday, and I took a nap after he hung up. We lunched at Gordon Ramsey’s pub in Caesar’s Palace and walked over to the High Roller observation wheel behind The Linq.
From there, we made our way to the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign for a few photos. You can’t really see it, but my sign says, “48 down, 2 to go.”
We hiked back to our hotel to get ready and turn around to Treasure Island for Cirque de Soleil’s Mystere. It was amazing, and you should take any chance to see a Cirque show. We did a dinner package and went over to the casino buffet after the show. We had to wait in line for no apparent reason, but the food was pretty good. We called it a night after that (it was already closing in on midnight). Hopefully, you already read my race recap and know how my Sunday was. I flew home Monday. After a short delay, I made it back to DC around 11 pm. I was so hungry that I actually ate McDonald’s (it helps that nothing else was open) and finally got home around midnight. It was a crazy whirlwind weekend, and I would love to go back and explore Vegas more.

Oh I miss Vegas! The one thing I didn’t get to see was that famous sign! Somehow I couldn’t find it! haha…Where is it located on the strip?

Want to hear a cool fact about that Las Vegas sign? My sister-in-laws grandma designed it. 🙂 Every now and then I get a small feeling of wanting to back to Vegas but then it is blown out of the water when I think of the stress of living there haha.

So glad you enjoyed it- I went during a major rave and had quite a different impression of Vegas (i.e. I am NEVER going back there! lol) maybe I missed the post, but how did the race go????

When I was little we used to go to Vegas all the time, but it was a lot different than it is now. There really wasn’t all the themed casinos, in fact the only where that was really there was Excalibur. I did make it back after college, but we were on a road trip and only stayed for about a day and a half. But I’d love to make it back for a longer trip, especially if I can make to one of Britney’s shows while I’m there!
