One, you’re like a dream come true

We met on a Saturday night in March of 2009. We hung out for the first time on Wednesday, were dating by Friday, and went on our first date the following Monday. We spent pretty much every day together from there on out until Mac commissioned in May.

Mac’s first assignment was out in Fort Lewis as an instructor / ROTC babysitter at LDAC (aka Army summer camp). Driving out there was our very first road trip. I spent the summer at my parents’ in PA.

After LDAC ended, Mac had to report to Fort Sill in Oklahoma for the basic officer’s course. I flew out to Washington, and then we headed off on road trip #2 of 2009.

I went back to Virginia Tech for my senior year, and our first year of long distance continued. Mac visited me for my 21st birthday.

I spent a week in Lawton around New Years, then it was back to college.

I had a sty in my left eye. Hence the excessive swelling.

We planned another trip to Lawton for Valentine’s Day. Mother Nature threw a wrench in our plans: I drove three hours to Charlotte, found out my flight to Dallas was delayed and my flight to Lawton was cancelled because of a snowstorm in Dallas, flew three hours to Dallas, then drove three plus hours back to Lawton (it snowed the whole way to Oklahoma).

Our first anniversary rolled around, and we started taking seriously about our future. We knew we wanted to be together, so I began looking for jobs in North Carolina.
