We’re still having issues at our apartment with food spoiling really quickly. Half of a ten bag pound of potatoes started molding in less than two weeks! I managed to salvage the other taters and prep some food for freezing. And forgive the iPhone photos, no camera cord in sight. I also lay everything flat to freeze it evenly.
Hash browns: you make fresh hash browns by grating the potatoes on a box (cheese) grater.
Fries: we invested in a “Perfect Fries” chopper and were pleasantly surprised with how it works. You cut a small sliver off the bottom of each tuber to flatten it out then press the top of the chopper down.

Diced potatoes: I diced about half of the sliced fries. These will serve as a base for mashed potatoes, potato soup, or home fries. Yes, some of them browned, but they are still safe to eat.
I also prepped some peppers and onions. Instead of one large bag, I divided them into two: one was a thin slice, one was a dice to save the effort of slicing frozen veggies.
What sort of food prep do y’all do?

I love doing food prep it makes things so much easier! I have the vacuum seal machine and it helps so much!

This is so smart! I forever lose half of a bag of potatoes as we just don’t eat them very quickly. Thanks for the tips!! 🙂

I love your perfect fry cutter! I will definitely have to invest in one of those:) I usually just make potato wedges instead of fries and get tired of them after 2 or 3!
I usually cut my cheeses when I get them (if I buy cheese, its blocks) and I get loaves of bread so I slice it at the beginning of the week. I usually like to keep some tomatoes washed/ sweet onion peeled in my fridge if I know I’ll use them within a couple days but never more than that in advance!

Wow. These are all great ideas! Wish I would have learned these tricks sooner. We have had so many peppers and potatoes go bad because we don’t eat them fast enough. I will definitely start using the tips you suggested! Brilliant!

We have that same issue out here too with food going bad really quickly. I bought a rock hard avocado, put it on the counter to ripen. Later the same week I went to use it and it had ripened and started to rot already! These are great tips!!

We have a ton of potatoes in our house now, and I’ve just been crossing my fingers that they don’t go bad before we use them. But I’m thinking I may just need to dice them up and freeze it, and then not really need to worry about it. And I never would have thought of doing it otherwise. So Thanks!!
