Adventures in North Cackalacky

My parents visited this weekend, so we went out and did shit. I only photographed some of it.

Saturday morning, we packed a picnic lunch and headed up to the Yadkin River Valley to go wine tasting. We checked out Native Vines Winery, the first winery owned by Native Americans. Their wine was quite tasty and unique (they make tea wine), but the building is a bit unassuming.

Next, we headed over to Weathervane Winery. The co-owner and my dad both went to Grove City College, a very small private school north of Pittsburgh, so they bonded over that. Small world. They offered wine slushies. Very tasty and very dangerous. We ate our picnic of barbequed beef, pasta salad, and watermelon.

Finally, we stopped at Childress Vineyards. They had stopped tastings for the day (our wine map showed they were open an hour later than they were), but we wandered around the grounds. This was the most beautiful winery that we visited.

Sunday, Tech was playing in the ACC baseball championship game, so we drove to Durham to watch it. The Chokies decided to arrive, and we lost by committing FOUR errors and not capitalizing on loading the bases twice. But I love baseball and Tech. And this was their first appearance in the baseball championship game ever, so I can cut them some slack.

Since we did so much driving, we kept Memorial Day pretty low key. We stayed home and cooked up some buffalo burgers.

What did y’all do for Memorial Day weekend?
