My sorority sister, Jane at Taingamala, is hosting a “Questions for Christmas” link-up.
When do you start decorating for Christmas?
I’m strictly an after-Thanksgiving decorator. My older sister’s birthday is December 11, so we would wait until after her birthday growing up.
Christmas attire, casual or dressy?
Dressy for Christmas parties, jammies for Christmas morning, a more dressy-casual (sweaters and slacks) for Christmas dinner.
Best gift you ever received?
Mac coming home last year!
Worst gift you ever received?
I’m not a fan of getting clothes unless I’ve picked them out ahead of time.
Snow, love or hate?
Love to travel to it; hate to live around it or drive through it.
Favorite Christmas song? Least favorite?
I adore religious Christmas music and despise secular Christmas music. Seriously, “Jingle Bell Rock” sends me into a rage. I blame working retail.
Best Christmas movie? Worst?
“Love Actually” and the original “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” are our family faves. Jim Carrey’s “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” is quite a disappointment.
Christmas tree, real or fake?
Fake. My mom is allergic to most real ones, and our cats apparently enjoyed drinking out of the tree’s water bowl.
Do you have a favorite ornament?
Family traditions?
Watching “Love Actually” or “How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” playing Christmas music rolls on our player piano, my mother baking her famous onion-dill rolls.
The easiest and hardest people to buy gifts for?
I pride myself on my gift-giving abilities. I tend to remember random or unique things that people like and find them.
Do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas?
One on Christmas Eve, the rest on Christmas morning. Others for and from family members are opened at Christmas dinner.
Clear or colored lights?
Clear. I’m a purist.
Travel or stay home?
Well, we travel. This year, we’re going to my parents, then to Mac’s aunt and uncle, and finally to Mac’s parents.
Themed or homey decorations?
Umm, I guess homey? Our Christmas tree is a smorgasbord of things we like: Hokies, kittehs, Mac bought a Darth Vader Santa Claus ornament yesterday.
