Something borrowed, something blue. Or how I completed my bridal look.
Hair: As I mentioned, I shall be an unveiled bride. I have opted for a ribbon headband. My inspirations are below, but I’m in the process of whipping something together.

Earrings: My parents gave me stunning sapphire and diamond studs similar to these for my 21st birthday. I’m a September baby and have an unhealthy obsession with my birthstone. I absolutely adore these but don’t wear them too often. Most of my earrings wind up in pieces or alone. These shall not and will double as my something blue.

Necklace: I’ve always known I was going to be a pearl bride. While I can’t ignore my birthstone (see above), nothing is as quintessentially bridal as a strand of pearls. Sadly, a full strand just didn’t look right with my dress as it clashed with the straps (dress spoiler). I tried on a few drop necklaces at David’s Bridal and decided to find one along those lines. My beyond-wonderful mama made my decision for me when we got home. She gave me a necklace of hers from college with a solitary pearl in a simple silver design. It. Is. Amazing. It has the pearl I want, it’s not too much with regards to the dress, and it’s the right length. Fate. My parents also gifted me a tear-drop pearl necklace for Christmas to wear on my wedding day. I’m more inclined to wear my mom’s because it was hers and it can count as my something borrowed.
Rings: I had my ring set soldered into one piece and dipped in rhodium. The rhodium protects the white gold and stays shiny longer. Because of this, I obviously won’t be wearing my engagement ring on my right hand. I will; however, be representing my Hokies. As I already mentioned, Virginia Tech has a strong class ring tradition. Mac and I will be wearing ours on wedding day. Mine is white gold with a maroon Mozambique garnet. Mac’s is yellow gold and has an orange stone (not sure what stone). Even though I got it junior year the weekend we started dating three years ago, it shall be my something old.
Shoes: Since we decided to have our ceremony outside, I realized that flats were my best option. I’m not the best in heels these days, and North Carolina soil is quite sandy. Nobody wants the bride eating it down the aisle. Several weddings featured on Southern Weddings pointed me to Jack Rogers, a ubiquitous staple of Southern fashion. Originally, I was leaning towards a white or silver Navajo sandal. Then my life was changed: Jack Rogers released a limited edition collegiate collection. My heart fluttered. I clicked the link and scrolled through the colors. And I saw them: maroon and orange Navajos. I freaked out, texted one of my friends, and bought them. So yes, I will be wearing maroon and orange shoes on my wedding day. And I’m proud to be a Hokie. And these shall be my something new.
