In the grand world of wedding favors, you have loads of options. Candles, cooking utensils, barware. So what did we want? Originally, I set my heart (and wallet) on these adorable acorn candles. I thought this was a cute, subtle nod to my sorority. The cheapest I found these was around $2.25 a piece. Together forever, that’s it in a nutshell. Ohemgee. Love.
After some deliberation, I decided that candles wouldn’t be the most practical for our flying guests and might never ever be used. What would travel better and be reusable? Koozies! Most koozies also come with clever sayings and are easily customizable. I happened across www.totallyweddingkoozies.com.
Keeping with our response cards, I chose the “Eat, Drink, and Be Married” design. After some research, their burnt orange (Pantone color 159) koozie and maroon lettering (222) were very close to Virginia Tech’s 158 and 208. My parents generously gifted the koozies to us, and the total cost was around $100 for 100 koozies (included processing and shipping).
We bought the five pound bags of Hershey Kisses from Sam’s Club, and we filled each koozie with around 20 (yes, I counted how many were in a bag and then how many filled up one koozie). We then placed each koozie in a Wilton cellophane treat bag from Michael’s and tied it with the silver twist-ties. El Cunado’s (now ex-) girlfriend and I knocked all of these out in one afternoon.
Our guests loved them (even if not all of them remembered to take one). Another bride mentioned that she sent out extras in the thank you notes. If I had procrastinated, this might have worked.
