What to wear, what to wear

Early on in my newly-engaged haze, I realized that I would need a dress. Duh. But what did I want?

I quickly made of short list of likes and dislikes while perusing my assorted stash of wedding mags.

Likes:
A-line skirt
Not stark white
Pearls
Lace
Sleeves
Chiffon or lightweight material

Dislikes:
Poufy
Princess
Ballgowns
Excessive skin or cleavage (sorry, Pnina)
The ultra unattractive chicken cutlet caused by an ill-fitting strapless gown

I really didn’t look very seriously at dresses for months. We didn’t have a date or venue, so I didn’t want to fall in love with something that wouldn’t go with the venue (aka satin ballgown on a beach).

And then I saw this:

Alfred Angelo had the audacity to design a line of gowns inspired by the Disney princesses. I say audacity because my generation grew up with these girls, and many of us desperately wanted to be them. Belle is far and away my favorite princess. At the ripe ole age of four (Beauty and the Beast came out in 1992), I saw striking similarities between myself and her: we both had brown hair, we both liked to read, we both wore blue. I was itching to try this dress on. If you noticed, this pretty much has everything I didn’t like about dresses. But something about it spoke to me.

On an unrelated sidebar, I see my love for Beauty and the Beast as a pre-destination for my becoming an Alpha Gam. Why? I’m so glad you asked. B&TB made me fall in love with roses. The three bar wenches are wearing red, buff (or so I call it), and green.
