My dry wedding

I think I’ve mentioned before that we opted for a wine and beer open bar for our cocktail hour and reception. The high cost of liquor (not to mention extra bartenders and security) forced us away from a full open bar. My intention for our wedding was to have a few drinks and enjoy myself. I planned to not get drunk or sloppy. Why? First off, I don’t want to be “that friend” who got stupid drunk at my own wedding (I get plenty drunk at everyone else’s weddings). Secondly, I tend to black out whilst drinking wine and didn’t want to not remember great moments from my own reception. Sorry to my married friends, but I don’t recall your whole receptions. Whoops. Lastly, I have a really ugly “totally don’t know my own name right now” drunk face.

I tend to get like this.

Me after a bottle of Arbor Mist and two
Four Lokos at my senior date party.
I blacked out for 12 hours.

Because we missed all of cocktail hour, we were rather parched (it being almost 90 degrees) once we sat down. Mac and I drank several glasses of water before touching our food. Our waitress brought me a glass of Muscato and Mac a PBR. I drank that and two glasses of champagne (during our toasts). That was it. For the whole night. Obviously, I drank less than even I originally planned. To be honest, I was far too busy chatting with our guest and shaking my white-girl ass to make it to the bar. My only visit to the bar was to grab two beer bottles to snap this pic with our Bride and Groom koozies.

At our post-wedding brunch (recap coming), many of our guests asked how our morning was going (assuming we got really drunk) and were surprised when we told them we didn’t get drunk. Many of our friends were hurting in the bright sunshine because they closed down two bars (I’ll get to that, too). I had an amazing time at our reception without having to drink (shocking, I know). I’m also glad that I didn’t miss out on any special moments or wake up with a hangover (my last hangover left me in bed for an entire day. It was awful. But that’s what I get for drinking three Hurricanes in New Orleans).

What are your thoughts on drinking at weddings? Anyone get drunk (intentionally or not) at your own?
