Cinnamon dipping sauce for sweet potato fries
Say that 10 times fast. When we were on vacation back in June, I ordered a sandwich with sweet potato fries at Moon River Brewing Company. They came with the most delightfully wonderful cinnamon dipping sauce. It tasted pretty similar to the yummy icing on a fresh, warm Cinnabon. So I had to recreate it.
It took a few tries, but I found a pretty good copycat. Pair that sauce with crispy sweet potato fries (or wedges), and you have all the amazing taste of Great Aunt Betty’s sweet potato casserole but without the marshmallow hangover and self-loathing of eating three helpings. I’m also slightly inclined to smother a few cinnamon rolls in this sauce.
The sauce
The cinnamon dipping sauce comes together really quickly. It’s also easy to increase or decrease the recipe. You start with equal parts of softened cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. From there, add brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon to your tastes. I prefer a sweeter flavor with a nice hint of cinnamon. Finally, you add milk to thin the sauce out to a more dippable consistency. You can add as much milk as you want to get your preferred thickness. I would recommend serving the sauce immediately. It does thicken up a bit if you let it sit out.
The fries
To make your fries, peel and wash a large sweet potato or two. I have found that one really big sweet potato is enough for the two of us. Carefully slice the sweet potato into matchstick fries about 1/4 inch wide by 3-4 inches long. Spread them evenly on a baking sheet. Drizzle two or three tablespoons of oil over the fries and season as desired. I personally like a blend of seasoned salt, black pepper, and paprika. The smokiness of the paprika is a nice contrast to the sweetness of the cinnamon dipping sauce. Roast at 425 degrees for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces of softened cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons of softened butter
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 2–3 tablespoons of milk
Instructions
- Whisk cream cheese, butter, sugars, vanilla, and cinnamon together.
- Add milk a tablespoon at a time to even out consistency. You want the sauce to be thick enough to coat a fry, but you can also tweak it to your personal preference.
- Serve with sweet potato fries. Try to not drink this with a straw.
