Y’all, I have a confession to make. My eyes have been wandering. I’ve been looking around and considering testing the waters. We’ve had a good run, but I’m just not sure how much longer it will last.
You see, I’ve been cheating. On my car. With Mac’s car. His Honda gets much better gas mileage than my old war horse Jeep, so I’ve been driving it more around this area. I normally just drive the Jeep on the interstate. But I do realize that eventually, my 12 year old Jeep will no longer be with us as it already has 237,000 + miles on it. I feel like I’m jinxing it as I type this. Please stay with me, Jeep!
Mac and I have decided to start putting money aside for our next big purchase. It’ll either be a car or a house and will more than likely occur when Mac gets home. I mentioned a few weeks back how we’re planning to handle our finances during deployment, and I posted an update here. Hopefully, we can earmark several thousand dollars of what we save by the end of the year for a decent down payment.
How did y’all save money for a big purchase?

We put $100 a month into savings!

I LOVE my honda! It’s 10 years old, and still runs great!
We put an obnoxious (to me anyway) amount in retirement & college savings at the beginning of the month. After each pay period, we pay off the credit cards, and then put what’s left over in our emergency/big purchase savings.

We have a set amount that goes into savings every month and anything left after bills/necessities are paid for we put more in savings.
